K75 CamChain

I have an 87 K75 with only about 100k miles on it (odometer died about 10k ago). It runs great but a new noise is getting gradually louder. I checked the tappets last winter and the gap was in spec. The tappet gap hasn't changed in about 75k:dance. The noise is loudest when the engine is cold, but doesn't go away completely. What is your experience with the cam chain and its tensioner and the guide rails ?

The cam chain tensioner is controlled by a spring and oil pressure. It might be partially clogged, hense the louder noise with cold thick oil.
