Is an aftermarket air filter available from the Autoparts store? (Want to avoid the run to the dealership).
Thanks.

Where do you live?

I live approxiatmently 100 miles from our ÔÇ£localÔÇØ dealer. If IÔÇÖm busy and cannot ride there on a Saturday to pick up parts, they mail them right to my door.
BMW factory parts are the way to go. They are very proud of their parts but they fit and when you look at the quality verses aftermarket parts the price isnÔÇÖt that bad.

If youÔÇÖre loyal to your local dealer, they may cut you a break on pricing. :thumb

I tried a K&N in my 1987 K100LT and a K75. The bottom of the K&N is not grooved as the OEM filter is. I could never get all 3 clips to seat. I contacted K&N and they said they knew of no trouble and blamed it on my air box. They sent me a new filter with the same result. I sent both filters back and they refunded my money. After an internet search I found I was not the only one with problems getting the clips to seat.

The filter is too thick and K&N filters do not filter as well as the OEM. The K&N customer service is great.

Almost every after market devise I add to my BMW takes some work to be fitted. BMW parts are an exact fit. That said, I had the same problem and frustration as Ralph. I solved the problem with a file. Set the K&N filter on the air box in the proper location. Held the clips in their location and marked their location on the rubber part of filter housing, basically a up and down mark on both sides of clip with a magic marker or sharpie. Took a common file and filed the rubber out a little between the marked lines. Didn't take much. The clips easily snapped into place. A BMW filter will fit without having to modify, cut or file.

Uni foam filter

Uni foam filters cost about 25 bucks. If you add clean and filter oil probably about 45 bucks. Best thing you can yoink it out and clean it whenever you want to. I had no problems with fit.

Hi,
The stock BMW air filter for a K75/100/1100 is vastly oversized and will last for 50-100k miles. Remove it every 10-20k and tap it on the driveway to remove whatever will shake out, then reinstall it. Other than the K&N, which I wouldn't have on my bikes because of filtering and fit issues, I don't know of a filter which will replace the stock one generally available in the USA. Capital Cycle may have something, but I don't know. I did get a non-BMW air filter one time when I ordered stuff from Moto-Bins in England for less than half the cost of a genuine BMW filter, but I've never used it. It's still in my parts drawer.
