how to replace a lost key

some years ago I bought a car with no key, rather than replacing the ignition I went to a locksmith, and he had a liquid he injected in the lock. the liquid dried, he removed it and was able to cut a new key.

If the seat is unlocked, remove the lock and take it to a locksmith. They can remove the cylinder and cut a key, a brass one at first, that you can test on the other locks. If it works, locate the correct SS key blank(s) and cut to match. Paying a good locksmith on this job will be quicker and less costly than swapping out all the lock cylinders.

Best,
DeVern
Don't you need the key in combination with a paper clip or something to pull the lock out? Not saying you're wrong, but having the key has always been a crucial bit for me when I've needed to pull or install a lock cylinder.

Mine was a seat lock that had been replaced on a (decade newer than OP’s) used bike I purchased, and while I had the ignition key it didn’t fit the seat. Locksmith mounted it in a vise and started fiddling (I couldn’t see what he was doing, maybe lifting pins and “picking” the lock? Or some kind of epoxy or resin trick?) then returned after a bit to retrieve the ignition key and a fresh blank, and shortly after I had a lock that worked with the ignition key.

I have access to a very good locksmith, he’s helped me out on other “unusual” lock issues on cars and a safe, even. 😊

I ordered 2 blanks and have found a locksmith locally that thinks they might be able to cut to fit the ignition. If that doesn't work I will just order a new ignition switch with two keys.
