How to add muscle for little or nothing?/Removing the snorkel.

Hi everyone, I hope everyone's doing well. Here in Northern California it's windier than crazy out. I mean real windy and it's been like that all day. The reason I'm writing is that I've discovered removing the snorkel from my 2006r1200 RT with 40,000 mi on it transformed the bike. All of this was quite by accident as I was installing a new cable distribution box and neglected to install the snorkel. I started it up and immediately I was impressed! This project started out simply replacing a broken throttle cable, external elbow, to the distribution box. The elbow was broken. The bike behaves like a super bike. Just by keeping that snout off, The filter is now meticulously taped with gorilla tape around the opening of the plenum. Not only that, it sounded amazing. It actually had some muscular overtures. With California carb now defunct. Wide open is the way to performance. I'm making a lot more power. I mean first gear will get you probably in the sub 3 range to 60 mph. It's that pronounced of an increase. The sound isn't intense like open headers or something like that, but it is a nice muted huff-huff-a-huff I really like it so I'm going to buy a eBay used snorkel and cut it down to about a third. It's normal size and put some carbon filters over the front. The principle of conservativeness. Lordy, talk about pull. I thought I was on a Kawasaki 900. I do run octanium octane booster to raise my octane to around 99 so it always ran awesome and pulled great. But now it's dumping so much fuel into the cylinders that it's running a bit Rich with this modification. So that's just an FYI. You owe me nothing for this. Consider it a freebie. As an expert mechanic on BMWs, this is news to me. Enjoy!

It's normal size and put some carbon filters over the front. Very loose mesh stuff. The type they use in the home air conditioning unit. Those cartridge types maybe 3/8 in thick and just put it over the front just in case. But lordy talk about Paul. I thought I was on a Kawasaki 900.

I don't doubt the improvement you feel as I made a similar mod to my 1100S years ago. My mod retained the air filter. However, I think sub-3 seconds, 0-60 is probably out of reach. My 200+hp sportbike takes longer and there's no 1st to 2nd shift needed.
