I'm taking eight weeks off this summer and headed to Alaska. I'll be riding a new-to-me R1200GSA.
Right before I head to the Last Frontier, our annual motorcycle trip with the boys will be a loop around Lake Superior.
If I do a few shakedown rides, take it to my mechanic for a pre-trip inspection, the ride with the boys and Alaska, that'll be 6000 miles. It would really piss me off to have to buy a throw-away tire on the road, only to have it replaced with a 50/50 tire for the Dalton and Top the World Highways in Anchorage and the return.
I could take my K1200GT and take an extra day and ride it home and swap out bikes. It'd certainly be more convenient to not do that. I have a pretty idea how long tires last on the K bike because I've been using different versions of the Pilots many of the K bike's 120,000 miles.
Looking for real-world experience you folks may have.
Thanks in advance.
