Can anyone explain how to get TDC of the cylinders because I want to do a valve set job on my 2000 R1200C?

On the right side of the motor, about halfway back, you'll see a flat rubber plug. It's black. Pop it out and you'll be able to see the edge of the flywheel.

Take the spark plugs out and remove the valve covers. Remove the front cover off of the motor. Put the bike in neutral.

Find an allen wrench that fits into the hole in the bottom pulley. Rotate the pulley (which is bolted to the end of the crankshaft) until you can see the TDC marker on the flywheel.

Now, take a look at the rockers. One side will have some slack in it. This is the side that's at TDC. The other side will have some tension. Leave that one alone until you're done with the other side. When you're done, rotate the motor until the TDC marker comes up again. The other side should now be at TDC so you can adjust it.

There is something called; OVAD, on the ADV riders site. It is an anacronym for overhead valve adjustment for dummies.

Check it out. It is very helpful.

Good luck!

Which valves are intake and which are exhaust?

Also, "There is something called; OVAD, on the ADV riders site. It is an anacronym for overhead valve adjustment for dummies."

I admit I am mechanically challenged with BMW engines. Thanks for the info. but what is ADV riders site?

Mr ....head,

Checkout www.advrider.com and www.bmwst.com.

find out if a "Tech Daze" is happening near your place of residence and attend. At these informal "Tech Daze" seminars
you'll learn more about your bike than you'll ever want. And there'll be plenty of people to help "walk" you through what ever it is your trying to accomplish. Goodluck!:bliss

We've got a few guys here that live in Colorado. Maybe they'd be willing to help you out.

But basically, intakes are on the back and exhausts are on the front, right by the exhaust outlet.

:)

The R1200 forum tech section at www.chromeheads.org has an engine subsection that should be of use to you. Also, one of your fellow Coloradoans, Pokie Parmidge, is a motorcycle mechanic and an R1200C owner. He has posted pictures and the how-to of the R1200 valves and other R1200 service notes on his website. Here's the specific link for the valves service:

Pokie's hosting server had a power outage and he is waiting for someone to come back from the holidays and reboot it. Just try again later. He has great info on a lot of cruiser service topics, all with pictures.
