$6.50 any bicycle shop...

That's when I when I remember to use it...
I've never had a helmet stolen off my bike...

I have seen helmets hanging off license plate locks full of trash/rain/'worse stuff'.

I too feel that a pro will have few problems with a lock, particularly as they will arrive with the intention to steal & will have equipped themselves to do so quickly & with little apparent fuss.
[
I'm not sure about the street value of used/stolen helmets, even the high end ones. Their theft likely is much more detrimental to you than an advantage to them.
[
I lock my stuff to hopefully overcome the so called normal/honest person who's little "shoulder Devil" says "it's just sitting there TAKE IT" in the spur of the moment.
[
My theory is that this type of thief is easily thwarted/returned to sanity if faced with just the minor inconvenience of a small weak locking system of some kind. I wouldn't be surprised that just buckling the helmet around a grab handle or somesuch would do the job in many cases.

They Jam. If not yet. It will.

I have experinced this (the jam) after only about two weeks of use.

I was able to get my tool roll out from under the seat and used the BMW side cutters on the cable. I was amazed at how easily the cable I was cut. I wrote a letter to Aerostich telling the story. Wasn't so concerned about getting my money back, but wanted them to know about the quality of the product. It has been a couple of years and these locks are still in the catalog ...

Glad you wrote that letter to Aerostich - they need to know how the products they offer are performing.

It's just braided aircraft-quality steel - in my years of law enforcement experiences, you don't even need a bolt-cutter to defeat that - a persistent thief with a needle-nose can eventually get thru it.

What we all need to remember is that the only way to completely protect our motorcycle gear is to leave it locked up at home and go no where. Rather extreme.

Of course, at the other end of the spectrum is the "I just leave my helmet sitting on the bike - so far, so good" crowd. Granted - that is your personal choice, but when such stuff goes 'missing,' it wasn't stolen - you donated it to someone who valued it more than you.

Acknowledgling that respect for personal property is at an all time low, what it's really about is not 'theft-prevention,' but rather 'theft-deterrance.'

Make it tedious or inconvenient for a thief and they often move on, leaving your gear where you left it.

So even the featured cable-lock in dispute has some merit (if only the mechanism would be more reliable). Something will always be better than nothing. :violin

Yup. Which is why I posted my Jam comment. Save others the aggravation.
Some things are just over thought.
Sometimes the most obvious get over looked as too simple.

All you need now is to 'pick a lock'...

Pun intended. :hungover
