headlight wiring-2004 1150 gsa

morning i have a recently purchased 2004 1150 gsa that has an aftermarket hid light set up- been trying to find a bulb to replace the broken one and have had no success so would like to put the bmw regular set up back in can someone help me figure out what wires connect to where? Thanks!! Leaving on cross country trip in 5 days so no time to order- bmw dealer says 35 watt H 1 others say 55 watt h 1 pleaSE ADVISE!! AGAIN THANKS

Another of our members, Doug, created a schematic for the R1150RT and posted it here; while it's a different model, the headlight wiring should be pretty darn similar. Here it is (thanks again Doug!), the headlight is on the third page.

For the bulb itself, you can go to either the A&S or MAX on-line parts fiche to determine the correct bulb(s).

Just for additional info and probably not directly relevant:
My Haynes manual for the 1100 says the headlight is a 60/55W H4 halogen;
my "maintenance instructions" BMW booklet that came with my RT says that my low beam is a 55W H7, and high beam is a 55W H3 (also the side lamps).

There are several after market bulb options for the H4 bulbs that offer better service life than the OEM original bulbs. Anti vibration filaments offer improvements on durability. PIAA makes quite a few models but I quite like this bulb because most of the time my bike is on low beam anyway and it offers much better low beam illumination than any other bulb I've used. Also, unlike some other higher power bulbs you don't have to rewire to accommodate the extra power of this one. Just plug it in. (with nitrile gloves on your oily fingers) :brow

All the R1150GS's use a H1 55w incandescent on the low beam. (hi beam as well)
Before you rip out the superior HID system go to an aftermarket jobber and talk to a knowledgeable person on HID lighting and ask for a 4300k H1 replacement lamp.
The ballast installed on your bike will indicate the wattage you need
The lamps are readily available.
I have converted my bike '00 1150GS to HID years ago and would never go back to incandescent.
If you want more info PM me and I'll give you my phone number.

if GSAddict hadn't repeated himself, i would have.

HID is SO far superior to H4 Halogen that it is flat out ridiculous.
fwiw- i have not replaced a single component of my HID system since its purchase- that's ~8 years and ~75,000 miles.

Don't know what happened there......happened there.....happened there

When I put in my system I bought an extra lamp and ballast for spares but have not had to use them yet. Much more reliable than stock lamps.

electrical problem

had the bulb tested and the problem is not there turn signal flashers, horn, headlight andand heated grips are all not working- I've checked the fuses and it is not apparent to me that there is one thing that would impact all of these at the same time. HELP please thanks

Power for all those items goes thru the load relief relay.
It is first small black relay on the first row of relays in the fuse box under the seat. There is a bigger yellow relay to its left.
The horn relay is immediately to it's right and is the same part.
Swap the 2 relays and see if you get your lights back.

Look carefully at the relay pins and the socket for evidence of melted plastic and pin discoloring.

Report back your results when you have done so.

just tried switching the relays and see no difference- headlight bulb inot reinstalled fyi looking from left side the first three fuses are in and good there is a space for a 4th fuse that is not there??

F4 is normally the horn fuse. Is the horn functional? (wondering if someone has done some wiring changes...) Normally there should be a 7.5A fuse there.
With the ignition on is there power on F4 and F7? (either side of fuse)
