Has anyone install a ZumoXT on a '21 RT?

Please please, share how and pics

I have installed a Zumo XT on mine. I used the Garmin cradle that came with it, installing that on a ball mount attached to the brake fluid reservoir. I ran the power cable back to the rear of the bike and attached it to the EZ-Can that I installed. I have it set to shut down the ZumoXT 90 seconds after I power off the bike. I have zero knowledge about the RT, but the zumoXT can be powered via its USB port, which save you a lot of hassle with the Garmin power connector and its weird voltage-reducing box and wiring. All you need is an SAE cable + USB converter and standard USB cable, or a cigarette lighter with USB converter. Makes it super simple to move the GPS across bikes and cars.

Now, my experience with the ZumoXT is another subject, I sure wish Garmin focused on the simplest of stuff instead of fancy cloud and smartphone crap. Below is my flow chart on what happens with your routes and waypoints with this thing… I had to make this because I could NOT figure out what was going where, depending on how you sent it to the device… it is infuriating. Long story short, they’re killing Basecamp in the interest of a new cloud-based system called Explore, which is not yet ready for prime time.

Also… the maps Garmin sells for the EU are, um, problematic.

What I need is a bracket to mount a GPS on a 2021 RT

You can but a RAM ball mount of your choice and the standard motorcycle mount kit from Garmin. See what I said above about powering the unit… it’s far easier to use the USB port than it is to use the Garmin powering connector.

I bought 2016 GSA clamps for the brake and clutch reservoir perches so I could screw a 10 x 1.5 thread RAM ball in where the GSA mirrors go - little bit more expensive but a cleaner install...
BMW sells the clamp with and without the extra hole that secures the driving light on the left side - don't have pic of right side handy now...

If you put an XT on your ‘21 RT are you willing to give up the random WiFi disconnects, loss of GPS audio, waiting for the WiFi to reconnect every time you stop? BMW engineered that into the system to add to your riding enjoyment, decrease boredom and encourage you to expand your repertoire of curse words. I would think twice about giving that up.

I gave it up Crusincruzan. I now have updated the crapola-TFT with and a real Nav sys. without the approval of BMW. I didnt even have to use their computer at the shop...

here is where you can get the bracket to mount any Garmin

It appears the mount you are using is unavailable from the link. :(

Maybe they’ve all been bought up by BMW; coming soon to a Parts and Accessories counter near you! :D:D:rofl

Pushback on integrating phone/navigation/TFT display seems strong…

Best,
DeVern

I don’t think integration is the issue, it’s the unreliability of the implementation. I’m hoping that the next update solves most of the problems, I’m just not betting any money on it.

...and here is my take: I don't see how synchronizing any of the various types of Bluetooth brands, the phone app, the variety of phone OS, and the motorcycle software is gonna work consistently given all these gadgets are constantly being updated for functionality's sake.

I don't see how BMW is gonna work with all these different gadget manufacturers to standardize them such that they work with the BMW software.

My guess (emphasizing GUESS) is that one update at the BMW shop may lead to a short period of functionality time; until the myriad of gadgetry this system is dependent on will change their OS on an update, then goodbye to the old connectivity.

I was on the road this Summer and heard several Beemer mechs say: "the connectivity scheme is too complex".

I now have my Sena paired with ZumoXT, my phone...simple! ... an most importantly, I can avail myself of Waze on the phone--which cannot be done through the TFT construct. I don't have a laser detector, and though I am not a speeding monster, Waze helps me avoid that 10 mph over the limit chicken-excrement ticket one could accrue from a zealot 'blue-meanie' ... you 'll have to be a little older to get that last one.

BMW didn't even do a good job just trying to stay coordinated with one vendor - Garmin - let alone more than one.

But Garmin was outstanding doing Customer Service on the NAV's. I had 3 before I had one that worked consistently. It has been no issues for a few years now on the IV.

If it goes out on my GS I will buy the adapter made on the 3D printer and get a XT. I lust after it but i have a NAV V in my car and a NAV IV on m bike so I have some stock but would splurge on the XT if my IV goes out.

@LFarling: you can mount a cradle for your Nav VI on a bracket sold by these guys:

Then, you can transport the Garmin back to wherever

This mount does not seem compatible with a 21-22 RT equipped with Satellite Radio?
