GS911 and Win XP

tinytrains

Still plays with trains.
I tried to run the latest update for the GS911 yesterday, and it would not install on my ancient XP laptop I keep in the garage. I could still run last years version. Anyone had problems with this? I may have to find a newer laptop.

Thanks.
Scott

I have not tried it on my old doorstop using XP, but my guess is that you are correct, the new version likely will not run on XP. The website http://www.hexcode.co.za/products/gs-911/ should give you the requirements......I run mine on a much newer but still 4 yr old PC, and have not tried the latest download. I only have the old K12RS now, and all the new updates are only for the newer bikes.

I was able to do it a month ago on my acer kneetop with XP....don't tell me it's time to upgrade my equipment...
Already looking on upgrade of old gs911 since it will not work on post 2014 models like the 1600:banghead

The Hexcode page that shows the various software verions - http://www.hexcode.co.za/products/gs-911/support/faq/which-gs-911-software-to-use - shows that the software runs on XP.

Be that as it may, it's still time to pitch a 14-yr-old OS that is unsupported and no longer receiving security updates. New laptops capable of running GS911 are <$300 and used ones even less than that. XP would be safe only if permanently air-gapped from the Internet, and then you couldn't get GS911 updates...

Best

I now own two since the new one isn't backwards compatible.

Thanks, I saw it is supposed to still work on XP, but I have noticed a whole bunch of new updates that don't run on this "2001 wheel choc":violin.
I guess I need to find a new garage computer. Flash and Java are out of date and cannot be updated, that may be the problem.

Thanks,
Scott
