Fuel strip: failure characteristics?

I think I might have just experienced fuel strip failure. 2007 RT, 33k miles. Filled the bike up on the way home today, got home, washed it with a wet sponge and sprayed it off very lightly. Let it set to dry for about 30 minutes. Started it up to put it in the garage and the fuel indicator is flashing and the gauge is reading just below 1/4. It looks like they usually read completely empty when they fail? Should I go ahead and zap it or replace it?

Use your trip meter and install one of these if you choose not to replace it. The emulator removes the yellow warning light and spoofs the gauge to show full all the time. Then you can use the onboard computer for very accurate tank range then compared to recorded odometer distance. The motorcycle's computer calculates tank range based on fuel metering since reset. It's what I did three years ago when my strip failed. Zapping is temporary at best and you can never trust the gauge again.

Oh that's helpful. I was thinking if not for the warning symbol I would just leave it tbh. Thanks for that.

So far I have seen no reports of the new improved fuel strip failing. There is lots of information about this issue on these posts.

It is possible to achieve the same effect as the emulator above with a few cheap resistors.

I guess I got lucky. Went for an actual ride today (I had just started it in the garage to double check the problem before) and a tenth of a mile down the road it started working. I'm ready for when it does go out now though.
