Fuel Injector Chatter

I was balancing my FI's tonight and the right side is chattering like crazy. What I saw was the idle screw (rock solid) and the butterfly? rotating part with cable just tapping away on it making the noise. I suspect it's time to replace or rebuild or something to both. My bike has 130K on it (R1100RT). Anyone run into this before? And if so what did you do?

The throttle body bushings/shaft are finished, kaput, farfrumgruvin.

Mine did the same and I posted here some time ago. Not a big deal. I fixed it myself but there are some service providers that can help you. I'm sure other folks will weigh in and direct you.

Thanks for the tip, I think I remember reading about the bushings years ago. I'll go do some research on that and see what it takes to do the job. If it's not to difficult I'll tackle it.

+1 on Dan Cata's throttle body repair kit.

It is a very easy DIY repair with the kit. A friend and I each did our throttle bodies with these kits. His RS and my RT both had over 100K miles when we did it. Not only eliminated any chatter noise, but also made TB sync much easier to accomplish.

Before assuming it is the bushings make sure there is enough freeplay in the throttle cables. I have had this problem before when the lower throttle cables were adjusted a little bit too tight causing the butterfly valve to chatter like you described.

To test the bushings run the bike and spray some WD40 or brake cleaner around the bushing and if the idle goes up you found the problem. I've also seen one throttle body bushing worn such that you could just grab the cable spool and wiggle it. The play was noticeable.

+1 on GSAddicts link to Don Cata and his bushing kit. He gets great reviews over on ADVRider and has made a line of interesting things for oilheads.

While it's possible that lack of free play in the cable is contributing to the TB chatter - the OP says his RT has 130K miles. At 130 K miles, his throttle body shafts are worn. No doubt.
