Extended warrantee questions

Again, I did not ask if an extended warrantee was a good gamble or an explanation about how it's really an insurance policy. I already understand the concepts.

These issues are what I am interested in.

Does the extended warrantee come from the factory?
If not from the factory are there multiple providers or one?
If multiple providers, are there one or two best choices?
Does it cover the same items / issues?
Is it honored at all BMW shops?

Finally based on the above questions has anyone had good / bad experiance with it? I'm particularly concerned about the brakes and trans./ clutch issues that have been listed previously in other threads.

I will make the final decision to purchase based on information I can get and how much it costs vs my potential liability.

I already have answers to the first two points. Apparently it is not from BMW and there seem to be at least 2 providers.

To the folks who gave me their experiances, thank you very much, sincerely.

I'll have to start contacting dealers and see if I can find one or more that provide the brochures and sell the warrantee to compare what they have.

I like you had a 04 R1150RT that was going out of factory warranty. I asked the dealership I bought my bike from about getting a FACTORY x-tended warranty. I was told BMW does not offer one period. I then asked about buying a after market warranty and they told me they didn't work well with that market. For me this is not good because for the most part my dealer where I bought the bike from would be doing the work. So in my case Mike the answer was pretty simple, keep the bike and take my chance (in which this bike had what felt like was a bit more than normal problems) or trade. I can't be of much more help than this but IMHO you are going to be at the mercy of the after market warranty people no matter who it is and then the dealer who does the work (in my case I was told up front in so many words don't buy it. This has put me on a new Honda where the factory warranty is 3 years unlimted mileage and I bought at the time of sale an additional 4 year FACTORY HONDA warranty NO deducable UNLIMTED Mileage for $395.00. Bottom line a full Factory HONDA 7 year warranty for $395.00 good at any Honda dealer. I almost had to pinch my self thinking this must be a dream but sure enough a few days later I received in the mail my warranty from Honda Motor Corp.
