Thanks, Mike/Ron: I was thinking of using boiling water, like I did for the white sanitary lines for my sailboat: softens the pipes up really well.

Anyway, it's OBE now, since the carbs are rebuilt and the diaphrams were just fine. The parts Dept at San Diego BMW were very forgiving letting me return the diaphrams out of the kit due to a mixup on the phone, and the price was very reasonable. I've returned with credit card in hand several times now, and will make the trek again for more parts before this bike is back in one piece...
