Clutch diaphram spring broke

My clutch diaphram spring broke and I think I'm pissed. I've got an '04 1150 GS with 31,000 miles and my clutch diaphram spring slightly rotated necessitating a replacement which I'm doing (PITA), but it seems this should not have happened. I was wondering if others have experienced this problem or was I just lucky?:banghead
