Brake lamp

My 2002 R1150RT has the brake lamp stuck on. The ABS has been deleted , the relay in the brake circuit appears to be the ABS warning relay. The relay functions as it should. Has anyone installed a separate stand alone circuit for the brake lamp ? Any ideas are appreciated. My harness is sending power to the lamp with the brake switches disconnected.

Then your harness is working the way it is supposed to. The brake switches are NC (normally closed). When you step on the pedal or pull the lever, the switch OPENS. With your switches disconnected, the relay logic in your harness thinks you are applying both brakes.

Thank you for your reply. Is the relay logic in the relay/fuse box or part of the ABS module. I bought this bike with the abs completely deleted with the harness modified.

Thank you for your help. With your explanation of the circuit I was able to diagnose a failed front brake switch.

the brake switch actually grounds the circuit to illuminate the light

That confuses me. If the switch grounds the bulb to illuminate the light, and the light stays on with the switch disconnected, where is the ground connection being made? That is, I think, the big clue to look for.

The brake switches are NC (normally closed) type and they open when you press a lever. The ABS unit controlled the brake light itself. If the electronic part of your ABS is still in place, which is a common way to delete ABS on those models, it should still work properly. If it’s gone, you need to reverse that signal (a NC relay would be one way) for the lights to work normally.
