Just a courtesy reminder from the Fontana Resort Village in NC!
U really should attend the BMW Riders of Georgia annual rally next weekend (as it is every May) in Hiawassee. We missed the last two years due to Euro ADVentures, but we’ll be there in 2025 with our Time-Out pop-up glamper, 2-4 May! [N34° 57.891' W83° 46.307’]

We got a little wet riding from AL to GA along many backroads on May 2d. A heavy T’storm arrived as we entered Ellijay with 55 miles yet to go; we stopped as soon as it was safe to stop on a downhill twisty road to put on our Frogg Togg raincoats. That offered a little protection and warmth. We arrived at the Hiawassee public campground and the Anderson Music Hall around 3:45 after the rain had stopped giving us time to choose our camper’s resting spot (see photo 1). We parked our bikes & camper on some asphalt where other visitors and trucks & trailers were already parked. From there it’s a short walk up to the music hall’s back door for Friday night’s chili supper (meat or veggie) & for two re-scheduled lecturers. This year, there was significant attention given to the SE-BDR and a couple of female extroverts showed slides of how six women recently rode the route together while bonding {with many unforgettable riding experiences or simply sharing various motel rooms or a cabin}.
Saturday morning was gray & threatening while attendees enjoyed a pancake & sausage breakfast in the music hall in front of the stage. Some organized off-road & on-road rides departed later in the morning. P&K ate a simple camp lunch next to the camper before departing on a local ride west to Blairsville. Phil typed in nearby local distilleries into the GPS and out popped Grandaddy Mimm’s. Since we did not have access to WiFi, we rode off to the designated address In the early afternoon 5 miles south of town on US-129. Wrong! They do exist, but now in the middle of Blairsville. We had a taste of their barrel aged whiskey and brought a bottle home. They also now brew some beers, so I enjoyed a smooth Blond ale. Upon our return to the campground, afternoon attendees got to watch a big-screen video of how ten serious dirt riders on a variety of motorcycles performed on the same BDR route heading north from the Gulf shore last autumn [an awesome video presentation created by Kirk Lakeman and associated explorers for the creation of the South East BDR {3-minute trailer on YouTube} was shown with voice-over, music and drone footage! Check out the teaser trailer when you get the opportunity, and picture yourself in the woodlands & mountains. They tackled a wide variety of terrain headed north up thru FL, AL, GA, TN, NC and into the Appalachian hills of VA {but only a few treacherous water crossings in this 1,300 mile expedition}. Most people cooked their steak dinners out back just before more evening T’storms throughout Sat night. No bonfires were achieved over the weekend.
We had an uneventful ride back to HSV on Sunday along different back roads. Enjoyed a popular Sunday luncheon at Greg’s Family Restaurant in La Fayette, GA. We later unloaded our gear and then set up the camper in the garage so it could dry out (Last photo). We’ll see y’all in Lebanon, TN in six weeks!
