This past weekend the MTF sponsored a B2B from Laredo to Pembina, ND. I drove up to be the ending witness. Gave me an excuse to shop the Commissary at Grand Forks AFB.
A rider from TX, on a 2007 K1200GT arrived at the Gastrak truck stop in Pembina to drop off a 'package' before crossing the border. As he left the truck stop, he felt a wiggle in the rear wheel. He stopped on the on-ramp, and could shake the wheel back and forth. Since he only had a couple miles to go to get to the Duty Free store and back, he limped on. He came back with two other riders, and his 4-ways on.
BMW Motorad would only authorize 50 miles of towing, and the closest BMW dealer was Moon Motors, close to 400 miles away. MOA would re-imburse for towing. Somehow the rider got a number for a towing service in Grand Forks. The towing service agreed to pick up him and his bike later Sunday, and transport them to GF, where the rider had a room. He plans to fly back to TX. The towing service will store the bike securely, then transport it to Moon Motors. The rider will determine disposition of the bike after that.
The rider was grousing about the waste of money for the best towing coverage, and his membership. He was also mumbling about never drinking Kool-Aid again, and maybe going back to an HD. Of course, I tried to sell him on a Wing.
To add insult to injury, the bike only had 9,070 miles on it at the end of the ride.
