What is the informed consensus regarding front fork oil weight?? I read somewhere that some of the "experts" were recommending different oil weights for the left and right fork legs.

.

Is anyone here a fan of using ATF for fork oil?
I've heard of it and I guess it works, but. the argument against I've always heard is that real fork oil isn't all that expensive so unless you have lots of excess ATF around why not just use real fork oil?

ATF was fine back in the /5 forks where 3wt fork oil (hydraulic fluid) was specified and used. The damping in later forks was specified to take 7.5 wt fork oil. In any fork later than a /6 Airhead or so, ATF is too thin.
