It’s not really an issue because the franchise is everywhere, but many new Fourbucks have kiosks in existing businesses, so I always limited myself to stand alone establishments (or storefronts). In my region, lots of them have a kiosk inside a chain grocery store. The regional hospital also has a kiosk shop on the main level. I would think they should count as they have their separate registers, staff, etc. but it’s hardly an effort to find a standalone version in the same town.

Edit: The only problem I have with this is that in my area, 90% of the Starbucks have the name sign too far away from the building to get a picture... And who in their right mind doesn't know the Starbucks logo?!?

It's the #5 most recognized logo in the US...
The one I posted is the only freestanding (not in another business) *$ in that town. The only name on the building is on the side butting to the 55mph highway with no place to put the bike, or my "face and flag". So, no points in that town. Oh well, we tried

Seriously, that was my concern posted above. You could go inside and photograph yourself in front of the kiosk, but that’s more trouble than it’s worth,

That’s how I read it, BUT a kiosk with its own staff and not run under the store, or a branch in the hospital is arguably a “standalone location.” What if you found a coffee shop run from a “roach coach” (I’ve seen this and with ice cream vendors who do this so they can set up where the traffic is)?
Again, the franchise is ubiquitous enough that it’s easier to find a brick and mortar or storefront location rather than argue for allowing kiosks. It would be an issue if the franchise essentially shut down independent locations and went strictly kiosk.
The secret probably boils down to “don’t overthink it.” Otherwise you wind up with a Princess Bride line of reasoning.

Important lesson from my first Coddiwomple….
Your goal should be to “complete” it, not to “win.”
The bar for “completion” is set low enough that most anyone should be able to do it, but if you want to be the top point earner, you’re investing a lot of time and effort to ensure you have the highest score.
If you want to “win,” you are looking at a lot of time and effort to get the number of photos needed to be the top competitor. It will quickly make something intended to be “fun” into “work.” So, unless that’s your jam…adjust your expectations.
On my first day, I only did about 50-60% of my planned ride and got 650 points. Going forward, I will have my flag with me and keep my eyes open, but no more planned rides just for the competition. With my work schedule, it’s unrealistic to expect I have a shot at getting the top score.

I did not think that I would have any chance of finding a chicken statue. But, lo and behold, I did! And a big pig, a purple gorilla, an elephant, a cow, a horse or donkey, and a bear. All at a place that sells yard art. I have seen some tacky and questionable yard decorations, but nothing quite like these statues.

It's the scale of tackiness that is impressive! Beats astroturf, a gnome, and plastic daisies in the front yard all to pieces.
