2008 R1200R won't start (R newby)

New to me R1200R purchased two weeks ago. Wanted to add two sets of Photon Blasters. Rear set, no problem. Front set was a bit more involved. I disconnected the vent lines from the right front of the fuel tank, disconnected the fuel lines (didn't mark them because I (was dumb) assumed the difference would be obvious. Anyrate I installed a Positap for the Photon Blaster on the red/yellow wire of the connector clipped to the right front of the ECU & grounded it to the frame. I reconnected all the vacuum & fuel lines (correctly?). Now the bike won't start. The vacuum lines seem straightforward, I've tried switching the two fuel lines so now I'm totally confused as to what goes where. What is the proper fuel line connection? Did I tap into a wire that shouldn't ever be disturbed? Yes there is fuel in the tank & all lights & indicators work. Any ideas before I start over?

First try removing the Positap from the wire associated with the ECU. On CanBus equipped bikes the load on every circuit is monitored by the central computer. If there is more load than expected the circuit will be shutdown. I have no idea what circuit you tapped into, but it cold be the source of your problem. What did you attach to the circuit? The lights themselves or a relay? You can generally attach a relay and not trip the CanBus shutdown of the circuit. I still would not use a wire directly attached to the ECU. Try something like a tail light or auxiliary port for a switched circuit for a relay. To draw power for any add-on you'll generally need to run straight to the battery with a fused wire or install a fuse block and draw power from that. There are fuse blocks available with a built in relay which will limit the number of other relays you'll need to find space for.

I'm not familiar with the hex/camhead schematics, but I agree strongly with Kevin - it doesn't seem right that a red/yellow wire gets grounded.

It Lives

Thank you for the quick responses, the problem was incorrectly connected fuel lines. Though why it didn't start when I switched them the first time? Anyrate I didn't properly explain the Photon Blaster connection; the hot wire of the PB is connected to the red/yellow wire of the connector clipped to the front of the ECU the PB negative lead is grounded to the frame. Thanks for getting me back on the road again.

Just an observation FWIW, I'm disappointed with the Haynes manual for this bike, the paper is low quality, pictures are dark and the information seems incomplete.

Hmm, my Haynes for the R1200R shows the Red/Yellow on the ECU (Engine Control Unit) to be for the 'Knock sensor cyl 1'. Might be better to tap into any of the Red wires nearby or even better a fused connection to the battery positive. Also previously mentioned and sorted, ground connections on most BMW models are Brown wires.
