1985 K100RS coolant temperature gauge.

I picked up a spare temp gauge for my bike complete with the panel. When testing (plugged into harness, key on and grounding temp sender wire to frame) it takes about 2 seconds to fully deflect to the right. When performing the same test with the original the needle deflects instantly. Bad gauge or gauge going bad or nothing to concern myself with?

As in a delay of 2 seconds before it jumps to the right, or it’s taking 2 seconds for the needle to make its way across? Some gauges are damped, to stabilize readings and avoid flutter. I don’t know that’s the case with your temp gauge, but would consider it a possibility.

The latter. No delay. As soon as I ground it it moves. Your comment about flutter is interesting because my current gauge sort of jiggles around a little bit when it shows normal operating temperature, but when the needle is moving (heating up or cooling down) it's a steady motion.
