07 R1200RT No rear brakes after ABS service

2007 R1200RT, owned about a year, had a stuck brush on the ABS module motor. Had the motor serviced (unstick the brush, clean and reassemble). Put it back in and did a nice slow careful bleed out. On test ride, it seems like the abs turns on properly and the front brakes feel pretty good. But the rear feels like they aren't working at all. Not a spongy feeling. It's like they aren't coming on. They seem to function when ignition is on, engine off, spinning wheel, but not when engine is running. With the ignition on, engine off I can spin the rear, pull front lever and the rear wheel stops. Could this be how this brake system is supposed to act- pull front lever and both brakes engage? Any thoughts would be helpful. Ive never ridden this bike with functional abs so I don't really know what it's supposed to feel like. Thank you!!

I can confirm on this model that is how they work. Front handlebar lever engages both front and rear brakes (linked). Foot brake engages only the rear.

Hi Mike- ok but how much effort does it take to just apply the rear? I'm pushing the pedal down pretty strong (no front applied) and hardly getting any braking (at the rear). Dave (blue one like in your pic)

Not much effort needed so you do have a problem there. I have never had to work on my ABS system so not versed well with it. I do know it can be tricky to bleed correctly which could be your problem.

Could we get some of you talented hexhead wrenches to the rescue please.

Where are you? The simplest solution to me is to have someone experienced ride your bike and tell you if it's normal.

In the Cincinnati area. Will start asking around for a hexhead tech. I haven't hooked up a 911 to the ABS, I heard the 911 simulates abs function. Helps get everything back to normal.

If you have one it would be very helpful in this case. It can do a bleed test to verify if your bleed is good or not. These search results may be of interest in case you haven’t seen them.

That's where I'd start, hook up the GS911 and activate the pump, then a fresh bleed. I would also recommend using a mityvac or the like if you haven't been. No doubt, this is what the dealer would start with too
