points or electronic ignition?

So just to jump in and update this post, I have changed out the Dyna system on my 78 RS to a Wedgetail system.

No advance weights and micro computer controlled timing. So far, it lives up to the marketing hype with better cold starts and smoother running. A big improvement over the Dyna system. St.
 
I have that unit installed on my R100S with OEM alternater, put it in last summer with new coils. I have no complaints, only praise for it. From start-ups, through all RPM ranges, seems much more responsive and smoother.
 
Both units

Both units are very good and do a great job. My friend installed the EME system for a customer and so far the customer is very happy with the performance.


I like not having to cut or crimp wires or mess with the factory wiring harnesses. The Wedgetail system is plug and play. The biggest problem I had installing it was mounting the ignition module under the gas tank. It fit but took a bit of fiddling for me to get it to fit right. St.
 
The 75 R90S that was gifted to me by one of my best friends installed an electronic ignition in it not long after he bought it in London. He told me he did not want to have to deal with points. He did two tours of Europe on it before shipping it to the States.
It's been in it since then with no issues but I'm not sure what brand it is. The writing on it has faded over the years.
