Hi bmwmoa, new member and 6 months new to airheads! Sorry if this is a dumb question or if its been covered before (I did search!) but a bit of advice before I tear into the swingarm internals would be much appreciated.
During bike refurb, swingarm/ driveshaft and rear bevel drive housing removed as one assembly and not dissembled. On refitting, all went well until the rear wheel was hand tightened onto the rear bevel drive. Rotating the wheel rotated the drive shaft, all ok. I removed the wheel again (can't remember why) but once refitted it didn't rotate the drive shaft. It looks like the driveshaft is further forward (towards the gearbox, engine is out of the frame) than it was and maybe slightly off centre as if it has come off the splines that connect it's rear end to the rear bevel drive. Is this possible? There is no grating noise and the driveshaft turns, the wheel rotates but not together.
This is the first shaft drive that I've restored. If its just come off the splines, is it supposed to and is there a fix without taking the rear drive off the swingarm?.
Thanks in advance.
Mick
