Aftermarket Light Mounts

What's everyone doing for driving light mounts? I don't have engine guards on my R850R, but would rather have them higher up. I no longer have access to a machine shop while I'm unemployed. Not much room around the fork legs with the fairing, unless I put them low. I have a set of Ridgid lights, but they flat mount.

You say 850R but mention fairing in way of fork mounts?

Have seen them mounted to underside of outboard oil coolers.

Have a set that clamp around the turn signal stalks on a 1100R but no clue who made them.

Have a set of these on my GSA, it sure if still available but the website is up with a 2007 date on bottom

The advantage to lowering them is the triangle provided for approaching vehicles. Up close to headlight, they just make a larger single profile... my .02 cents

These were from about 1999 purchase, so no clue if still available

Thanks. The only issue with down low mounts is they don't light up down the road. I want some smaller ones down low for that. My fairing is a Parabellum Scout, so it mounts to the headlight mounts and the handlebar mounts. Not really an option..sadly.

Like this?

Are lights light enough to mount to fairing?
Have seen lights on top of oil coolers as well

There are a ton of choices for light mounts on Amazon. Many are made to fit a round tube with different rubber inserts for different sized tubing.

Well, this is still an ongoing process. I bought some light mounts that fit a 2inch bar...but The lowers on the R850r/R1100r Maybe others ) are not round. They are oval, sooooo off to the machine shop to get them machined to fit. Now, as I'm putting the parts together on the kitchen table, I realize that the 3-way switch is a flush mount. DOH! That's not going to work. I installed a switched aux fuse block which I will use, but now I'm going to rethink how I hook everything up. Probably going to do away with the switch and wire them so they work with the headlight switch. The lights are a Hi/Lo Rigid. They say they tailor to motorcycles, but they don't have any real mounts for bikes and only one switch that is weatherproof. sad, because these are so much tougher than anything out there. 20200723_125841.jpg

On my R1150RT there is an unused boss on the fork lowers (I think it's used on the R1100RT to mount the larger front fender that's a prominent feature of that bike). I drilled out the hole a bit larger and mounted my lights there.

The mount came with the light. I bought the stainless steel standoffs at the local hardware store.
Yes, the r850 has that too. It just seemed too small for this application. Plus, The D2 lights need to be mounted like a normal rectangle driving light. It has 2 rows of 6 lights so I couldn't mount it that way. I was originally going to mount some small LED "Running" lights there, which I still may. This becoming much more of a hassle than it should have been.
