I filled up on gas and triangle yellow came on, I noticed flashing gas pump in display flashing, Fuel indication was blank, it eventually came on and went off several times, I would guess some kind of wiring short, what do you think, I know fuel gauges have been a problem,Thanks Woody

diy fuel strip install

Has anyone replaced the fuel strip themselves, I LIVE ON AN ISLAND no BMW dealer, bike has to be shipped to another island (gone for 4-6 weeks)and they are not good, can the 911 do necessary electronic tasks to do install?

In your situation this is futile. Some folks have had 6 or more fail. There is no known good reliable fix. The 12 year guarantee from new is just to forestall a recall for which there is no know real fix.

I recommend you do it the old fashioned way and reset your trip meter every fill and use miles traveled to indicate when to refuel.

The real head scratcher is there are bikes with multiple failures and then you have bikes with zero failures.

Google "bmw motorcycle fuel strip repair". One recommended procedure is using a pizeo lighter. There are a few youtube videos as well as discussions on other forums. Considering your location, it might be worth a try.

A very darn few have had zero failures. If not for a very twinkle toe dance this would be a recall.

I am a zero failure lucky one. Since mine is a 2008 (~150K Km) with a build date of January I won't be getting another fuel strip. However, old habit is I watch my trip meter and go by that in any case. The fuel gage is 'nice to know'.

fuel strip swap to float

I saw a you tube video, a guy removed fuel strip and added a float assembly to a 2008 gs, he had to order a part to make electrical work and clear the fault by assembling 3 resistors and plug home made device into plug end, and of course the float assembly. It seemed to snap in stock fuel pump assembly. have you seen this? This seems much smarter than changing a fuel strip that will go bad again and it can be done DIY, no shipping to another Island and 4 week repair by shaky mechanics.

This is likely the video:
