Yes Hex Code, the company that makes the GS-911 has updates available every 3 month.
I usually update mine once a year.
Sometimes the updates add new functions and sometimes it fixes bugs in the software.
Both Hex Code and Ted Porter are helpful when you have questions. Ted Porter is one of the US Suppliers.

Yes, it is compatible. There are some bugs but Hexcode is actively working them out: https://forums.bmwmoa.org/showthread.php?95983-R1250-and-GS-911-Issues.
The 1250 uses wideband o2 sensors and has a third post cat O2. Hexcode is working on getting that right too.
