2004 R1150RT Brake Light Modulator?

I want to put a brake light modulator on my "new to me" 2004 R1150RT.

I was told a "Backoff" modulator will not work because of the ABS light monitoring feature.

Has anyone found something that does work?

I appreciate the help!

Welcome to the forum! There are a couple of threads in the Similar Thread pane at the bottom of the screen about modulators in the Oilhead forum. Might be a place to start reading while you wait for others to respond.

On my '03 RT I replaced the brake light bulb with this: https://www.superbrightleds.com/mor...ed-tower-ba15s-retrofit-420-lumens/2623/5695/

I left the tail light bulb incandescent.

Then I installed one of these in-line with the brake light wire: https://www.superbrightleds.com/moreinfo/strobe-controllers/brake-light-strobe-module/195/845/

To provide a redundant tail light and additional brake light I put one of these on the rear fender just above the license plate: https://www.theretrofitsource.com/morimoto-5stop-brake-light.html

So far my ABS controller hasn't complained. At least it hasn't stored any codes that my ODBII scanner can find.

The 1150 has an ODBII plug in it? Where?

You can add some LED load to the brake/tail light circuit without causing a code.
Reducing the load will cause one.
Basically you need to leave a functional Incandescent Lamp in place unless you start experimenting with load resistors.

Under the pililon seat tucked back into the tail light housing, a round connector about an inch in diameter, clipped to the frame. A GS-911 will plug directly onto it. I chose a less expensive, albeit possibly less capable, route with an OBDLink MX Bluetooth along with an adapter cable that connects the standard trapezoidal shaped MX to the round BMW plug.

I contacted Hyperlites Tech service and they assured me that the Hyperlites will fit my 2004 R1150RT and cause no interference with the brake/rear light monitoring system. They even sent me a pdf of the installation instructions specifically for my bike.

Ordered a set along with the license plate mounting bracket.

Thanks for all the feedback!

Installed Hyperlites today. An easy job and they work great!

Almost painfully bright.

I was a little concerned about the constant flashing vs 5 flashes and then solid light modes.

I talked to a WA State Motorcycle Patrol officer that I ran into at the local motorcycle shop.

He assured me that the light will not cause any ticket problems.

Especially for an old guy, like me, riding a quiet BMW.

He even showed me the flashing extra brake lights on his patrol motorcycle.

They sure looked like my new Hyperlites!
