How to remove top box mounting plate '94 K75S

Hopefully this is an easy one. I have a ‘94 K75S with the factory top box. I know how to get the top box off the rack but I can’t get the plate that it connects to apart from the rack. Is there a trick to it that I am missing?

They are simply friction fit.

Taken from a similar thread: "IIRC - it is supposed to be slid under the forward edge of the rack while being pressed down (so the foam under it compresses) and then the bottom edge locks into the rack."

Thanks, I'll give it a shot. I knew there was an answer here somewhere but I couldn't find the thread...
