MOA Getaway - Fontana, North Carolina -- 4.22 - 4.24.2016

I understand Chris. I've learned that if I don't set time aside to do these things it won't happen. I've learned over the years that there is always too many competing things. If I'm going to do this motorcycle MOA thing I'm going to have to accept that if I don't pull the trigger on these events and set time and resources aside, something will always compete for my time. I'm only a few years older than you. Age wise your right where I was a few years ago, kids graduating, and such. Someone's signature line says something like, "The biggest mistake people make is thinking they have more time." I encourage you and others reading this to pursue your passion (motorcycles in this case) and never assume we have more time. If I don't see you on this one Chris, I hope to see you on the next. Until then, ride safe brother.

Fontana Getaway

Just returned to Raleigh from Fontana. Great experience except for pouring ride from Raleigh on Friday. Did the Tail and Cherohala Skyway and had a blast. MOA award dinner was great except I didn't win anything. Saturday and Sunday weather really improved and made for a good ride. Kudos to those adventurists that made it to the Getaway. Hope to see you at Hamburg!

Fontana Dam Getaway

I learned that this is the 4th Annual BMW MOA Getaway at Fontana Dam. 205 attendees including BMW MOA ED, Assoc. ED, four BOD members, one BOD candidate, and a bunch of happy people who probably got wet on the way to the event on Friday. Great riding Saturday and Sunday, wonderful people and a fantastic venue.

Thanks to the organizers and volunteers for a great job!

A couple of photos:

My hats off to all the work that was put into this getaway. I showed up Monday to get ahead on the riding. I met the kindest, most giving people... Really one of the best weeks I've had in a long long time. Special thanks to Jerry Elliot (newest lifetime member... Couldn't happen to a nicer guy) Chris Willham and John Gamill. The generosity that was shown... I'm still taking it all in.

The wife and I had a great time at the getaway. The Fontana Resort was awesome. I rode about 7-8 hours on Saturday. Lots of curvy roads and the weather was perfect on Saturday. We will be back next year. My son tagged along with his DR 650.

This is the second event I have attended with Vance and his daughter. Shouldn't that girl be in school? Johnson City and Fontana.

Looking good in the turns Reece - reminds me that I need to check out some of those photo vendors as well. I enjoyed the riding on Saturday.

Yeah I had a great time hanging with the boys. I saw your pictures, as they were posted right behind mine. They are good. I studied your posture as it is distinctly different from mine, (and by different I mean better as evidenced on the Cherhola later that day). Hope you got a new starter, looking forward to doing it again. If you purchase one of the shots, post it here.

A couple more that came in today

Posting a couple more for the love that bike. Clearly demonstrates the maneuverability of the RT, and my OCD as cleaning the bottom of the bike finally paid off for the money shot. I saw a lot of beemers on killboy.com and 129photos.com. Hope more folks from the getaway post photos. There was a lot of good Bavarian imagery on display.

Dang it! Posted the same photo twice:banghead. Managing attachments, not my forte. I'll try one more and then leave y'all to it.
