20 years in the ski biz patrolling etc and DH patrol I defat with any number of spinal injuries. Absolutely you want your EMS trained in helmet removal. I was involved with a DH race injury where the casualty ran head into a tree at speed. I was a racer that day but assisted the patrollers. The decision was made to remove the helmet and it was done properly by trained people. The casualty still suffered injuries to make him a quad which was super tough to see as he was a friend of mine. He tried to sue the hill saying the helmet removal was what caused his condition. Super tough game to be in the middle of. I have my opinions but the courts make the last decision. Agreed knowing proper helmet removal is a basic skill for first spenders anywhere.
