I am wondering if any one can help me out?
I have an 02 r1150gs with 50K on the odometer. Just yesterday on a ride it died going down the road. It was like I turned off the key. Then before I even got stopped it fired back up. I made it home with only a slight hicup after that.

My ? is where do I start? I do alot of my own work on the bike. I am not afraid to get my hands dirty. If anyone can point me in a direction it would be much appreciated.

There are many possible causes. A little water in the fuel would be one. Try some Heet (I like Isoheet in the red bottle) in the fuel.

It could be electrical. I would start at the electrical connection to the fuel pump and make sure it is clean and sound. Next would be the big plug electrical connection to the Motronic ECU. Buried beneath the fuel tank. Again clean and sound.

Third would be the small connection where the Hall crankshaft position sensor plugs into the harness near the ECU.

The 1100s had hall sensor wiring failures. I haven't heard of this on the 1150s but it is possible.

With only a fleeting glimpse of a failure that is where I would start. It doesn't soundlike a component failure to me.

Great info!!!! Thanx for quick response, heading to the garage now.

Another thing to check, that produces the same symptom, are the wires coming out the back side of the ignition switch. Some R bikes have been known to chafe these wires near the first tie-wrap from the switch assembly until there is only intermitent connection, resulting in just the behavior you described.
