Can any one offer advise on how to change steering head bearings on a 1978 R100/7? Mine are tight and notchy. Thanks airhead community!!!

BTDT...mine had the 30 year old hardened original grease. All I did was just clean the bearings and I've been fine since.

You be able to find what you need here:

Check the bearings first...you might just need to regrease them... Beyond that, getting the lower bearing race off can be tricky. People have used dremels, cold chisels, tack welding a bead...Cycleworks and Jeff Trapp sell pullers for the job.

Steering head bearing removal.

A friend welded a big washer into one of the bearing races. Then it was easy to punch out the old race. Repeated this for the other bearing race. The bearings on the steering spindle came off pretty easy with a punch and hammer. Job was done in short order but it does help to have a portable welder.

Ray;)
