pop up ads

I have found that any “redirect”, that takes a route other than a direct route has the chance to “pickup” some clutter.
A good example of this kind of redirect or “go look for a file-

“ Default.aspx - The default webpage loaded when a client browser requests a web server directory on a Microsoft IIS-based server that uses ASP.NET. For example, when a client requests http://www.sampledomain.com/, the server loads http://www-sampledomain-com/Default-aspx, unless it is configured to load a different file.”

If that is the case, it might be easy to see if this redirect as you call it links up in time with the presence of the pop-up ads.

Testing using unmodified Microsoft Edge in Windows 10:

Site permissions are specifically set to allow redirects, pop-ups, and ads on bmwmoa.org.

I'm not getting the default.aspx suffix from the bmwmoa.org link on the forums page. That tab takes me to https://www.bmwmoa.org.

If I use Reece's link to https://bmwmoa.org/default.aspx, the URL I reach is https://www.bmwmoa.org/?
Note the default.aspx portion changes to a question mark.
Same result if I manually type in the .aspx URL.

Still no ads.

I feel like I'm missing out on those Ukrainian beauties.:whistle

Are those that are seeing ads using an antivirus program or parental controls that redirect page requests through a filter, and maybe adding ads along the way?

Correction: I do see some ads on some pages after I get off the main MOA page, but no pop-ups.

So, until I can find an answer… my favorites book mark: https://bmwmoa.org

mysteriously became: https://bmwmoa.org/default.aspx

Going through and resetting my bookmark manually to the original website domain without the extension removed all the google adds.

Not sure how this happened, but this work around removed the adds from my computer.

As we say in the Army: more to follow.

Thanks, I had not noticed the aspx in the address. Like 20774 I do not bookmark the .org website, I access it from the forum.
I did notice there is a down arrow with the ad and when you click on it the ads collapse out of view.

I had the same results when I checked the site address when accessed from my favorites tab. I followed your lead, deleted that link and replaced it with the link without the aspx. I hope it works. Thanks for the suggestion.

We do have ads on bmwmoa.org. They should not show at the home page, but most of the other pages can have ads. Typically pop up blockers will not show any ads if installed. I’ll double check the settings and tighten those up if you are seeing ads on the home page.

I don’t think there is anything mysterious about the urls or bookmarks. All of those URL’s mentioned a legitimate part of our website/provider.

The MMS appears to be built on Microsoft Active Server Page (ASP) technology, which uses a lot of XML (a means of creating markup language to do “special things”) to build dynamic pages on the fly from variables existing within a database.

I am pretty sure the ad pop-up issue is not related, however it would be worthwhile checking with the YourMembership vendor.

I’ve not seen any ad that I’m not supposed to see (as in, I see the sidebar ads that Ted mentioned),,, MacOS, Latest Chrome, pop-up blocker employed.

People with Safari can try “Reader View” it that technology is integrated into our MMS.

There’s no limit to the number of ways this stuff can screw up.

If it were me, I’d make our .org site like Wes did with bmwownersnews.com … responsive, open architecture, very extensible if you know how to code and lots of plug-ins to do stuff like join/renew, dynamic targeted page, blogs with comments and marketing funnels to support membership growth programs.

I actually called the Your Membership people to ask if they support funnel tools, and they do not. (Don’t worry, I did not mention the MOA’s name.) I never did get the opportunity to look under the cover of this thing, it looks like a great membership management project but requires a lot of special sauce from the vendor to get the thing to work right (typical for tools like this). I don’t know the cost of their hosted site or the consulting and development services… but I am sure it’s not cheap.

If we get a good open-source consultant to support the back-end of bmwownersnews.com it might be in our interest to move to an open-source solution.

Now, a couple of days later, changing my 'favorites' tab to the address without the aspx seems to have fixed the issue. Thanks.
