rubber part in R1100R under valve covers purpose

Hello, I gave my valve clearances a fine tune and synced the throttle bodies, because that is always a good thing. Every time I pull the valve covers I wonder what the outlined rubber part does. I assume it has to do with vibration, but it can make putting the valve covers back on easily harder.

My RT has them too.
I looked on Max's part fiche and don't see them listed.
I went to Beemer Boneyard to see and I don't see it there too.
I also assumed it was a damper.

I always assumed it was just a damper to help quiet things down. It’s not unusual to pull the valve covers on an oilhead and find the “buffer” missing.
