1985 K100RS powder coating question.

I am having my cam cover and crankcase cover powder coated next week. Is it okay to have the area highlighted in blue done also? This is the contact surface for the rubber seals.

Thanks,
Tom

As long as it is smooth so there will be a leak proof seal between it and the rubber bushings.:thumb

Thank you , Lee. That is exactly what my concern was. I'll make sure I get certainty one way or the other before proceeding. If there is any doubt I will have them mask those surfaces.

Powdercoaters sometimes use a thick primer layer underneath the color, and the extra thickness is ugly and can cause figment issues. Since the K valve cover grommets are pretty small compared to the Oilhead ones, I would see if they can skip the primer layer if they were going to use one, or at least stress to them that you don’t want an overly thick coating overall.
