Hi guys,
The answer to this question is probably posted in one or more other threads, but I can't seem to find it.
Anyway, I recently bought an 04 R1150R with about 177k miles on it. It runs fairly well, except that it rattles ("clacks" might be a better word) loudly when warm from around the base of the left cylinder. Based on what I've read after multiple searches, the culprit appears to be the left side cam chain tensioner. However, most posts I've read say that you can tell if the tensioner's already been replaced by the bolt head on the housing. They say that the original housing has a 17mm bolt head, and the upgraded part has a 15mm bolt head.
So, today I got the left throttle body off and out of the way, and found that the bolt head on the existing tensioner was 15mm. I decided to pull it anyway, figuring that the piston inside might be faulty or worn out. However, when I got the assembly out, it looks like the old style tensioner, with the long spring and the hollow cylinder.
I'm going to order the upgraded part anyway, as this is clearly not the R1200 part that everyone else installed when they upgraded, but I'm curious if anyone else has pulled the original tensioner and found the housing to have a 15mm head, or if there's some other explanation?
