Sprocket Change

I just changed the countershaft sprocket on my 2010 F650GS. I added a tooth. The only place I could find an 18 tooth sprocket was Tourtech. I have put about 500 miles on since changing it, and I have dropped about 500 rpm. When I added the Tourtech saddle bags, I gave up several miles per gallon. Their boxes hang out on the side like mini walls. I am pleased to report interstate mileage has increased 4 miles a gallon. I have not noticed any struggle to take off from a stop. Now if I could find a 38 tooth rear sprocket.........

I Did It On My F800GS

I changed my front sprocket from the standard 16 to a 17 tooth unit. My mileage went up by about 5 mpg, and the engine is much smoother. It is now in a more relaxed rpm portion. It hurts a bit a slow speeds, but the trade off is worth it, especially if one does a lot of highway miles.
 
You are trading for lower revs at highway speed when you go up a tooth in the front. The price is reduced torque. Personally, I don't like this trade off.

Mpg figures are suspect, depends where the odo gets the feed. Use gps rather than the bike gauges to calculate mpg.
