Safety bars r100 RT /7

Hey everyone, I am currently gearing up for a 2 month tour of the US and am outfitting my 1991 r100RT mono-shock to be a bit more comfy for the journey. It was originally a bermuda blue RT but the previous owner converted it to an S and removed/sold many of the parts including the engine guards. I have been searching eBay, MAX, and many other sites to find a full set of black crash bars, clamps, and hardware but am having a bit of trouble distinguishing the variations in part numbers. MAX has tragically run out of their stock and they are out of manufacture as of last year.

Can anyone tell me how universal the crash bar design was on the /7s? Would a /7 GS set of bars work on my RT?
Did the design change much from the late 70s to the early 90s?

Alternatively is anyone selling a set of crash bars that will fit a 1991 r100 RT?

Any help is greatly appreciated by my legs.

Welcome to the forum! Personally, I don't think I could help out much...would probably have to have a pair in my hands so you could hold them up to check the fit. Another decent source for parts is Motobins...you might want to check them out.

My suggestions...you're up there in Bean Town...consider hooking up with the Yankee Beemers club...maybe you'll find someone who has something similar and/or can offer some personal experience.

You could also advertise on the Flea Market by putting up a Wanted ad. Another place to consider is the marketplace at IBMWR.ORG.

Also, passing this on...we frown on using the forum to solicit parts or use it to buy/sell items...it's not that kind of a sharing place!! So consider the alternatives to finding parts. Thanks...

There's no such thing as a /7 GS but in any event GS or G/S crashbars won't work. It is a different frame for one thing, and you really don't want a crashbar mounted sidestand either. Or mounting lugs for an oil cooler.

I suspect the early /7 and '81-'84 big bike crashbars don't work on the later ('85-on) bikes either, as there were some subtle frame changes. (It sure is easier to change oil filters, for example) Should be fairly easy to compare part numbers.

If you've sourced RT fairing lowers (same as RS fairing lowers) hopefully they're already with cutouts for crashbars.

i will check tonight, but I may still have the engine guards from this 91 R100 "classic" monoshock....will send you a pm if I can find them...R100.jpg

I had those on my /7 and I took them off because I grounded on then in some turns thereby lifting and moving over the rear tire .Which is scary if you aren't expecting it. careful!

Sorry @20774 this post ended up being a more of a want-ad but I am really after information on the fitment of these bars. They are a bit hard to find but I've seen many GS bars out there.

@mysteriousfish I would be very interested if you still have the set.

Bermuda Blue is my favorite Airhead cover. Had an '84 R100RT repainted in that color by Holt BMW. Had to have battery cover decals custom made in silver, as that color was never offered in the '81-'84 style. The paint job cost more than the bike was worth.
