I guess the (earlier post) Yam 650 twin was too sedate, so I traded up (?) for a 650 Turbo Seca.

And the 650 Turbo lead to the FJ1200. The FJ died in a crash (with a friend on board, broken collarbone) and I didn't ride for well over 15+ years after that. Not because of the crash, but work & family. But I did come back, this time to a K bike.

The Cooper looks fun & you must have a really long neck! How do you get your chin clear over the windscreen like that?

Might want to brush up on your photochop skills.

My first bike, a Yamaha 80. That's me in my new five year old Cooper FJ. I scraped together $2,000 for it. Got my SCCA license. The F1 dream never worked out but I raced for 27 years. Had bikes all that time. No more racing, but lots more motorcycles now.

My "new" Ducati - back in the day

Here's a B&W of me and my buddy on my brand new 1966 Ducati Scrambler 250. This was @ May 1966, down at S.I.U in Carbondale, IL. The Duke was my 2nd bike - the 1st was a very used (abused?) 1959 Zundapp 250 Super Saber!
I kept the Duke until @ 1988. It was a great bike - wish I stll had it today.

My first bike was a Duc 250 Scrambler, and I also wish I had kept it. It gave me many happy miles, although not always trouble free, exploring the back woods of Northern Michigan. I later traded it for a 305 Honda Scrambler (previous post) that also provided many miles of enjoyment.

Pre-digital

Here's a few more bike pics I scanned in from "back in the day"...

Circa 1974 The first, and one of the few, motorcycles I bought new, Honda CB550-4.

About 1975, my wife and the bike on our first short tour, through the Sierras in Calif. We are waiting on the side of Hwy 49 for a 1 hour road construction closure to end.

Packing up in morning after our cheapie two person tent failed to keep us dry in the first rain of the season and we were absolutely soaked along with our gear so we packed up and found a cheap roadside motel.

This pic, a year later, a Vetter fairing added and a shot of us in Portland on our first long tour. A month on the road through the western United States and British Columbia. Oh ya, with a better tent:laugh

MX: from "Back in the Day"

Here's some shots of a motocross race up in Fairbanks, Alaska. I was stationed up at nearby Eielson AFB back in '71-72. These were shot in June 1971 at a local MX course up on Farmer's Loop Rd. I think they were all 2-strokes - nope, not a single BMW:scratch. Mostly Husky, Bultaco, Ossa, Yamaha, Jawa and CZ. I think there's even one Hodaka in there:thumb
