I have to give the MotoScan App a big thumbs up, because it was able to do what my ultra-expensive GS-911 could not do.
MotoScan comes in 4 versions.
Lite: FREE
Basic: €14.99
Professional: €29.99
Ultimate: €49.99 (about US$58)
I chose the Ultimate version. I didn't see the point to having a diagnostic tool that did not do what I needed it to do.
You'll also need an OBD adapter. I chose the OBDLink MX+ which can then be used on cars as well.
What I needed it to do in my case and I am sure it does a lot more:
- Reset Service Reminders and set the subsequent date & mileage reminders. I hardly need the ECU to tell me that as my BMWs get over-maintained.
- Change the instrument clock from 12H to 24H. On some BMW models, that can be done in the settings, but not on mine. I could not do something as simple as that using my GS-911.
- ABS Bleed for a thorough brake fluids flush.
Normally, when you pay a lot for a diagnostic scanner (and I have 5) you would expect it to do a lot. I found that not to be the case and I am damn careful spending big coin on promises and company advertizing.
Same on my Durametric Professional diagnostic scanner for the Porsche. Supposedly it does an ABS Bleed on a 996 and 997, but not on a 991...yet. They replied "in the future". The 991 has been out 10 years now. Which future, in a 100 years when they have all rusted away. Pardon the rant!
