It was a very slow news day to mine for posts. Fortunately (?) I have developed a Favorites (??) list on my browser that is more than a little bit substantial. Click through some things I have not in a long time I came across this blast from our collective past that is coming back.

Originally conceived by Brock Yates of Car and Driver fame, the Cannonball Run may be making a return. The concept as a motorcycle event seems to have taken a trip to Europe and survived there for some time. The organizers say they want to bring it back to the US from May 13-27 2007.

Motorcycle Repair and Care:

I know that some of you like Bit bikes as much as I do and restore them along with working on your BMWs. This may be worth looking into. BritBike.com was established in 1996. They bill themselves as being created by British Motorcycle enthusiasts for British Motorcycle enthusiasts. They have come up with a series of CD manuals for old Brit Bikes.

BSA CD-Manual
Covers some 1930ÔÇÖs models, the wartime SV, and almost all models from 1945 to 1973.

Triumph CD-Manual
The Triumph Collection covers almost every Triumph model from 1935 to 1985, with Spare Parts Lists, Workshop Manuals, Service Sheets, or technical articles.

Noton CD Manual
The Norton CD is now into its FOURTH EDITION, and covers not just the Commando, but all the so- called "heavy-weight" twins (as opposed to the under- 400 cc twins) and the "classic" singles - the ES2, the International, and of course the Manx.

[http://www.britbike.com/com/cd/ajsmatch.html]AJS Matchless CD Manual[/url]
This CD covers AJS and/or Matchless machines from 1926 almost without any breaks right through to 1967 for Parts Lists, plus fifteen workshop manuals or out-of- print service and maintenance textbooks covering much the same period. Both twins and singles are covered, and one of the workshop manuals is a Norton Matchless full-on Workshop Manual.

This is not a product review or recommendation. Information can be one of the hard parts of a restoration parts list. If you or a friend have a Brit bike project it may be worth checking out. Let us know if you do and what you think of it.

An old gallon measure
This is an old gallon measure from Canada. While it seems to say George II, it is actually George V, and the 2 refers to London City. This is confirmed by the crest, which has been used by London for centuries.

MINI USA HIGHLIGHTS SOUGHT-AFTER MODELS AT THE 2006 LOS ANGELES INTERNATIONAL AUTO SHOW

11/20/2006

Los Angeles, CA, November 20, 2006... MINI USA will highlight its full line of 2006 models at the Los Angeles International Auto Show. The current generation of MINI models that put MINI on the map in the US continues to exceed sales expectations and will be on sale through the end of 2006. In fact, MINI has never required any consumer incentives on its models in the five years since the brand was launched in the US.
MINI USA is now on the eve of the All-New 2007 MINI Cooper, and Cooper S models, which will debut in January, 2007. The 2007 MINI Convertible models, which carry the current body configuration, will debut at this time as well.

With the plethora of options and packages available, up to 60 percent of all MINIs are built to a customer-specific order. Some of the packages and options that allow people to individualize their MINI include the factory-installed John Cooper Works package, the popular Sport and Premium packages, as well as over 60 stand-alone options for customers to choose from.

John Cooper Works Kit
The popular John Cooper Works performance upgrade is available as a factory-installed option. In addition to the engine performance upgrade, the factory installation adds the John Cooper Works sport brake kit and a limited-slip differential. Along with the expanded line of John Cooper Works tuner accessories, MINI USA continues to offer the dealer-installed John Cooper Works engine performance kit.

MINI Hardtops and Convertibles
The MINI Cooper and Cooper S hardtops and Convertibles offer fun, style and performance. The MINI Cooper and Cooper S are unmistakable, sporting a distinctive silhouette and signature contrast roof. MINI offers a line of roof decals to further highlight the distinctive appearance of the MINI hardtops, with choices such as a checkerboard pattern, the British "Union Jack" flag and the American Flag to name a few. MINI will always be famous for its responsive go-kart-like reflexes with its sport-tuned suspension, quick-ratio steering and the wheels pushed to the four corners.

Exterior options for the send-off of the 2006 model-year hardtops include roof, mirror caps and bonnet stripes available in silver, paint colors including Royal Grey and Space Blue and two 15" no-cost wheel packages for the MINI Cooper. MINI interior options for 2006 include English Leather upholstery, a MINI "Seven" high-gloss black dash panel and a MINI "Park Lane" dash.

Fun in the sun is at the heart of the MINI Convertibles. A fully automatic convertible top with a heated glass rear window comes standard on the MINI Convertibles. However a truly innovative feature of the convertible top is an integrated power sliding sunroof feature. The sunroof allows for open air motoring and can be opened or closed while traveling at speeds of up to 75 miles-per-hour. From completely closed to fully opened, the top operation takes only fifteen seconds. When down, much of the top recesses below the rear deck, resulting in a very clean look and eliminating the need for a tonneau cover.

All-New 2007 MINI Cooper and Cooper S Models Raise the Bar Again Offering Premium Features and Value

113038631-M.jpg

Woodcliff Lake, NJ - October 31, 2006... MINI USA announces pricing for the full 2007 MINI model line, including the eagerly awaited MINI Cooper and Cooper S models which are all-new from the ground up. The 2007 MINI models continue to define the premium small car segment and now offer more value than ever.

113038659-M.jpg

The all-new 2007 MINI Cooper has a Base Price of $18,050. With an adjusted Destination and Handling charge of $650, the MSRP is $18,700. The all-new 2007 MINI Cooper S comes in only $300 over the previous generation model. With a Base Price of $21,200 and a $650 Destination and Handling charge the Cooper S has a MSRP of $21,850.

113038613-M.jpg

With new color and option choices, the 2007 MINI Convertibles continue to offer fun-in-the-sun while holding Base Prices to 2006 levels. The only change is a $100 increase in the Destination and Handling charge. With the adjusted $650 Destination and Handling charge, the 2007 MINI Cooper Convertible now has a MSRP of $22,600. The MSRP of the 2007 MINI Cooper S Convertible is now $26,050, including $650 the Destination and Handling charge.

2007 MINI Hardtops; All-New From The Ground Up
The all-new MINI Cooper and MINI Cooper S made their international debut at the 2006 Paris Auto Show this September and are completely new from the ground up.

Features include an all new family of aluminum engines in normally aspirated and in turbocharged form. These more powerful engines showcase Vanos and Valvetronic technology and are lighter and more efficient. The Interior is all new with a higher level of premium materials and features. The interior design incorporates a more integrated design with more options for customers to individualize the look and feel of the cockpit. And the exterior design has been completely redesigned while clearly remaining true to MINI's iconic shape and design language.

113038680-M.jpg

The full 2007 MINI model range, including the all-new MINI Cooper and MINI Cooper S hardtops will debut in the US early in the first quarter of 2007. A full listing of US prices, options and packages is available.

AMA Pro ATV Championship

I saw this at the top of the news collumn.
CNN.com: Honolulu motorcycle officer injured during BushÔÇÖs visit dies.

I've ridden on more than one motorcade for Presidents and cantidates. They are all extremely hazardous. In the briefing the Secret Service advises the same thing to all involved. If you crash do not stay on the pavement in front of the motorcade. They will NOT stop for you, period. They can't take the risk of it being an ambush. They also expect you to place the bike and yourself in front of and into any vehicle attempting to get into the motorcade convoy. The convoy will stay at a steady speed of about 45. Two Motors have to move up ahead and block an intersection. Once the convoy has passed they then have to catch up and pass it to get back into the rotation to block the next intersection. It gets rather "interesting" doing more than 70 to 80 MPH in town doing this, particularly when you have tons of spectators on the side of the road.

We had a Motor go down when Bush Sr. visited. He sent his personal physician to check on the Officer. He also made time to personally thank each local member of the motorcade for the job.

We also had a Motor go down when clinton came to campaign for his second term. He just got on the plane without even looking back and left.

At least Jesse Jackson stopped and said thanks before moving on to his next destination.

Officer Steve Favela, 30, was a father of 4. Rest in Peace, your shift here is done.

Very interesting. I did a similar intersection blocking task when I was in the Army Reserve once from Chicago to northwest Wisconsin with a long convoy. I had a jeep with the requisite lights, etc. and my job was to block intersections until the convoy passed and then overtake it before the next one. The sign posts on the road side were the worst danger. When I came up to one, the trucks would split and I could move in between. I was 17 at the time.

if you need any more photos of last weeks car in the river story from Beaver Dam let me know. turns out it was my uncles neighbor.
