FORMULA BMW AS THE STEPPINGSTONE FOR A SUCCESSFUL MOTORSPORTS CAREER
11/20/2006

DELL Formula BMW World Final 2006.
Munich, 17th November 2006. The DELL Formula BMW World Final, held from 24th to 26th November 2006 in Valencia, will feature 37 talented young drivers with two distinct aims in site. Not only will they be competing for the coveted winner's prize, a test drive with the BMW Sauber F1 Team, but the youngsters will also have the opportunity to demonstrate their skills to the international motor racing experts. The fact they receive the necessary education for a successful career in the four international Formula BMW series in Germany, Great Britain, Asia and North America, is illustrated by a look at the careers of many of their predecessors.
The main idols of the young racing drivers are naturally those drivers who have made it into Formula One. The current test and reserve driver for the BMW Sauber F1 Team, Sebastian Vettel (GER), for instance, achieved his breakthrough in 2004, when he convincingly won the title in Formula BMW Germany. Six-time Grand Prix winner Ralf Schumacher (GER) also started his single-seater career in Formula BMW in the early 90's. The winner of Formula BMW Germany in 2002, Nico Rosberg (GER), completed his maiden Formula One season in 2006. Timo Glock (GER), Rosberg's predecessor as title holder in Germany, will take part in his first test with the BMW Sauber F1 Team on 30th November. While Formula One test driver, Adrian Sutil (GER), also had his first outing in a single-seater in Formula BMW Germany.

The graduates from Formula BMW, however, are also successful in other motorsport categories. Currently former Formula BMW drivers are gaining a lot of attention in the A1GP World Cup of Motorsport. Adrian Zaugg (RSA), who took part in Formula BMW Germany in 2004, not only secured pole position in the first event of the season in Zandvoort , but also claimed victory in the first race. In race two, the 2005 Formula BMW Germany Champion, Nicolas H??lkenberg (GER), stepped into the spotlight and crossed the finish line in first position. As well as Zaugg and H??lkenberg, James Hinchcliffe (CAN), S?®bastien Buemi (SUI), Michael Devaney (IRE) and Armaan Ebrahim (IND) are four further Formula BMW youngsters in the A1GP flying the colours of their home nations.

Meanwhile in North America Formula BMW USA is developing into a more and more promising training ground for the ChampCar World Series. Andreas Wirth (GER), who won the first Formula BMW USA title in 2004, celebrated his debut in this hard-fought championship at the end of October. In Australia, the 21-year-old immediately shone by finishing ninth. Many other drivers, who broke into the world of Formula racing via Formula BMW, have aroused attention with good performances in the 2006 ChampCar Atlantic Championship, which is an ideal training ground for higher categories. Among these drivers were Graham Rahal (USA), who also entered A1GP, Tim Bridgman (GBR), Richard Philippe (FRA), Alan Scuito (USA), James Davison (AUS) and Michael Patrizi (AUS).

In 2006, numerous Formula BMW drivers managed to make their mark in Europe. Ho-Pin Tung (CHN), 2003 Formula BMW Asia Champion, won the title in the German Formula 3 Championship. Jonathan Summerton (USA) finished ninth in the Formula 3 Euro Series, in which Vettel took the runner-up spot. Bruno Senna (BRA), the nephew of three-time world champion Ayrton Senna (BRA), gained his first Formula experiences in the Formula BMW UK Championship in 2004, and successfully entered the British Formula 3 Championship.

Additionally, a multitude of former Formula BMW drivers such as Chris van der Drift (NZL), Eduardo Piscopo (ITA), Sam Bird (GBR), James Sutton (GBR) and Dean Smith (GBR) were able to prove their talent in various national and international Formula Renault series.

In the DELL Formula BMW World Final, the highlight of the 2006 Formula BMW season the spectators have a special event to watch. Not only can they look forward to seeing many gifted young racing drivers determined to grab the opportunity to conduct a Formula One test, but also it is highly likely the other competitors will in the future be battling for victory on a high level in other race series.

DELL Formula BMW World Final 2006.
Munich, 20th November 2006.

The first free practice session on Friday at 09:00hrs kicks off the most important Formula BMW race weekend of the 2006 season. Thirty seven talented young drivers will compete in the DELL Formula BMW World Final. The driver who emerges as the winner after qualifying, three intermediate heats and the exciting final will have a Formula One test with the BMW Sauber F1 Team.

However, before the participants get into the cockpits of the Formula BMW FB02 cars, they will get the chance to witness the unique excitement of the winner's prize. On the Thursday last year's Formula BMW World Final champion, Marco Holzer (GER), will complete his test for the BMW Sauber F1 Team at the "Circuit de la Comunitat". The 18-year-old is determined to leave a good impression on the engineers during his maiden Formula One outing. With this test, Holzer achieves the highlight of his motor racing career to date as he has a common goal with all the competitors in the Formula BMW series in Germany, Great Britain, Asia and North America: All young racers want to make it into Formula One during their career.

Following the appearance of the 2005 champion, the BMW Sauber F1 Team will also entertain the fans at the World Final on Saturday and Sunday with some very special test drives. Alessandro Zanardi (ITA) celebrates his comeback at the wheel of a Formula One car. The 40-year-old will take to the track in a 2006 BMW Sauber F1.06 that has been specially modified for him. The modifications include just one pedal for braking on the right side of the car and the accelerator on the shift paddle on the left side of the cockpit. In this year's World Touring Car Championship, Zanardi created many "magic moments". In addition to several podium finishes, he claimed his second world championship victory at Istanbul.

On Friday at 15:35hrs local time (14:35hrs GMT) the DELL Formula BMW World Final participants need to be completely focussed for the first time, when Group 1 of the entries will start qualifying at the 4.005-kilometre track. The qualifying session for Group 2 is scheduled for 16:20hrs. On Saturday, the competition format has a super pole competition featuring the top-eight qualifiers and four heats are on the agenda. Two more heats follow on Saturday, before the lights go out for the 2006 DELL Formula One World Final at 14:30hrs on Sunday.

MINI USA HIGHLIGHTS SOUGHT-AFTER MODELS AT THE 2006 LOS ANGELES INTERNATIONAL AUTO SHOW
11/20/2006

Los Angeles, CA, November 20, 2006... MINI USA will highlight its full line of 2006 models at the Los Angeles International Auto Show. The current generation of MINI models that put MINI on the map in the US continues to exceed sales expectations and will be on sale through the end of 2006. In fact, MINI has never required any consumer incentives on its models in the five years since the brand was launched in the US.
MINI USA is now on the eve of the All-New 2007 MINI Cooper, and Cooper S models, which will debut in January, 2007. The 2007 MINI Convertible models, which carry the current body configuration, will debut at this time as well.

With the plethora of options and packages available, up to 60 percent of all MINIs are built to a customer-specific order. Some of the packages and options that allow people to individualize their MINI include the factory-installed John Cooper Works package, the popular Sport and Premium packages, as well as over 60 stand-alone options for customers to choose from.

John Cooper Works Kit
The popular John Cooper Works performance upgrade is available as a factory-installed option. In addition to the engine performance upgrade, the factory installation adds the John Cooper Works sport brake kit and a limited-slip differential. Along with the expanded line of John Cooper Works tuner accessories, MINI USA continues to offer the dealer-installed John Cooper Works engine performance kit.

MINI Hardtops and Convertibles
The MINI Cooper and Cooper S hardtops and Convertibles offer fun, style and performance. The MINI Cooper and Cooper S are unmistakable, sporting a distinctive silhouette and signature contrast roof. MINI offers a line of roof decals to further highlight the distinctive appearance of the MINI hardtops, with choices such as a checkerboard pattern, the British "Union Jack" flag and the American Flag to name a few. MINI will always be famous for its responsive go-kart-like reflexes with its sport-tuned suspension, quick-ratio steering and the wheels pushed to the four corners.

Exterior options for the send-off of the 2006 model-year hardtops include roof, mirror caps and bonnet stripes available in silver, paint colors including Royal Grey and Space Blue and two 15" no-cost wheel packages for the MINI Cooper. MINI interior options for 2006 include English Leather upholstery, a MINI "Seven" high-gloss black dash panel and a MINI "Park Lane" dash.

Fun in the sun is at the heart of the MINI Convertibles. A fully automatic convertible top with a heated glass rear window comes standard on the MINI Convertibles. However a truly innovative feature of the convertible top is an integrated power sliding sunroof feature. The sunroof allows for open air motoring and can be opened or closed while traveling at speeds of up to 75 miles-per-hour. From completely closed to fully opened, the top operation takes only fifteen seconds. When down, much of the top recesses below the rear deck, resulting in a very clean look and eliminating the need for a tonneau cover.

HIGH-BEAM ASSIST SHEDS LIGHT ON NIGHT DRIVING IN AUSTRALIA
11/20/2006

One of BMWÔÇÖs cheaper options is also a safety device that could make night driving safer and less tiring.
High-Beam Assist, an intelligent new technology feature for the BMW 3 Series that automatically activates and deactivates the high beam, will further increase safety at night, improve driver comfort and reduce dazzling of other road users.

ÔÇ£Unfortunately, the high beam is very rarely used in practice, even though such use would be more frequently possible and even desirable,ÔÇØ says Tom Noble, General Manager, Marketing at BMW Group Australia.

ÔÇ£A scientific study in the United States on behalf of the US Ministry of Transport showed that the high beam is only used in about 25 per cent of cases in which its use would be possible.

ÔÇ£As with windscreen wipers, which have been available with automatic functions for some years on luxury cars, the constant switching on and off of the high beam is an irritating an repetitive activity.

ÔÇ£So it was a logical step for BMW to consider the potential of the high beam using intelligent technology in order to provide relief for the driver.

ÔÇ£Other studies have shown that when drivers do switch on the high beam, they often fail to deactivate it in time, thus unnecessarily dazzling other road users.

ÔÇ£Such situations can be avoided by means of intelligent technology such as High-Beam Assist,ÔÇØ says Tom.

High-Beam Assist is now available across the BMW 3 Series Coup?®, Touring and Sedan family.

The intelligent feature is standard on the 335i Coup?® and the upcoming 335i Sedan and is also available as a $300 option when ordered in conjunction with Bi-Xenon headlights on the rest of the BMW 3 Series range.

BMW first introduced High-Beam Assist on the 5 Series last year and was the first European premium manufacturer to offer such a system.

With High-Beam Assist a camera sensor integrated in the rear mirror casing registers activity on the road and automatically controls the activation and deactivation of the high beam.

The system identifies the headlights and rear lights of vehicles, as well as the surrounding road lighting.

The high beam switches on in the absence of vehicles on the road ahead or oncoming traffic, provided the road itself is not sufficiently illuminated.

A scientific study in the US has shown that the high beam is used very rarely, although such use is possible and even desirable in many situations.

High-Beam Assist makes a significant contribution to ensuring the high-beam is used more frequently.

It also prevents other road users from being dazzled if the driver switches to low beam too late or not at all.

At the same time it relieves the driver and increases comfort. All in all, High-Beam Assist makes for an increase in safety.

BMW Night Vision and High-Beam Assist represent the current high point of an initiative by BMW to make nocturnal driving safer for all road users and to offer the driver increased comfort.

Xenon light, which provides significantly increase brilliance and range, was introduced in the year 1991 (Bi-Xenon for low and high beam in 2001).

It was followed by the Adaptive Headlight in 2003, whose horizontally swivelling headlamps ensure considerably improved illumination of the road ahead.

Record used car sales
BMW (UK) Ltd is set to achieve record used car sales through its dealer network in 2006. Over 80,322 BMW Approved Used Cars and MINI Cherished vehicle sales had been recorded by the end of October. This shows a year-to-date increase of 13.5 per cent compared to the same period as last yearÔÇÖs record year.

Sales of BMW Approved Used Cars accounted for 59,666 vehicles in the first ten months, an increase of 10.3 per cent compared to 2005.

Jim OÔÇÖDonnell, Managing Director BMW (UK) Limited, commented: ÔÇ£2006 is proving to be another extremely successful year for BMW. New car sales are buoyed by record used car sales and we expect to achieve another record-breaking year in a market that is generally in decline. Approved used cars are the bedrock to strong residual values and support the new car market. We will not rest on our laurels however and will continue to work with our dealers as they focus on this important business opportunity.ÔÇØ

This exceptional performance underlines the growing importance of the used car market to BMW UK. In 2005 the total UK industry volume for used cars was more than three times that of the new car market.

This performance also supports strong residual values (RVs) for BMW, a key purchase decision for many owners. As an example, according to GlassÔÇÖs Guide, BMWÔÇÖs highest selling model the 320d SE Saloon currently enjoys 49.1 per cent retained value over three years and 36,000 miles - a stronger performance than its competitors.

Proving that the BMW Group offers products that appeal to the heart and wallet, Auto Express announced recently that BMW had the best residual values in the compact executive and executive sectors. The BMW 318d SE retained 51.6 per cent of its value over three years and the 535d SE 51.7 per cent. MINI meanwhile dominated the supermini category. The MINI One D retained a massive 61.1 per cent, making it one of the best performers in any sector.

The interest in BMW used cars is also borne out by the fact that BMW continues to be the most searched-for marque on the UKÔÇÖs biggest used car database. The www.autotrader.co.uk website handles an average of 18 car buyer searches every second or 1.6 million searches every day. Research has found that used car buyers increasingly prefer to search for German cars, with BMW being the most popular. The marque now accounts for 9.3 per cent of all used car searches.

BMW 5 Series scoops What Car? awardagain!
The BMW 5 Series scooped the gong for ÔÇÿBest ExecutiveÔÇÖ car at this year's What Car? 2006 Used Car of the Year awards, the fourth year in a row that the 5 Series has won its category.
The five-year-old 530d SE automatic beat the Jaguar XJ8 to claim top spot, with the judging panel calling the 5 Series the best diesel car on sale in recent years. The panel of experts from What Car? said: ÔÇ£The 530d auto can do it all: waft along in imperious calm on long motorway hauls; transport the family and their luggage in comfort; and even raise a smile on your favourite back-road.ÔÇØ

I really can't believe this statement. Talk about a solution in search of a problem!

ÔÇ£So it was a logical step for BMW to consider the potential of the high beam using intelligent technology in order to provide relief for the driver."

Just because it is "possible" to use a high beam does not mean it is proper, necessary or desirable to use it. If the driver is too damn lazy to flick a switch perhaps they should let someone else drive them around.

big news in Beaver Dam

"A 31-year-old Beaver Dam woman was in satisfactory to good condition after being admitted to Beaver Dam Community Hospital on Monday after the sports utility vehicle she was driving ran off the Beaver Street Bridge, behind Park Plaza Pizza and plummeted into the Beaver Dam River."

I'm going to go out on a limb and say we discuss it for 30 minutes at the thanksgiving table .

Before you get going on the discussion would you pass the cranberries and gravy?

high beam assist

Mike:

I'm sure you will remember GM's Guidematic automatic headlight dimmers many years ago. BMW's version would be way more sophisticated.

I think it could be a useful safety factor for people who have to drive at night, and who are pressing on while fatigued.

Vyrus varient of the Bimota Tesi2D, I like it. I wonder what the wife would do if I pulled 48 grand out of home equity???

Pressing on while fatigued is not a safe thing to do. A headlight dimmer switch will not make a fatigued driver more alert.

The part that appeals to me is the BMW car coming at me on my bike automatically dimms that lights instead of blinding me because they are to lazy or self impressed to do so on their own.
