GPS alternative

Might be worth looking at the MOA's free TourStart subscription. App seems to work well, the desktop web interface is good, and the routes could transfer from desktop to your primary device to your dedicated device. Or export as GPX for other uses.

I read some of the reviews of this app and they are less than stellar. I'm not a byte-head, so if it is not intuitive to an old geezer, it is not intuitive to me. A navigation app needs to be simple to use, do the basics, and leave the rest for the early adopters.

I looked at it both on my computer and on my pone and it's completely opaque to me. Can't make heads or tails of it.

I use OsmAnd on my phone. I download the maps for the states I'll be in. It doesn't rely on a data connection. It's not super detailed like using Google maps for finding gas, stores, hotels etc. It has many features, and free is my favorite price. On downside to using the phone is it's not waterproof like some GPS units. A Ziploc bag can be placed over the phone in rain, but makes the touch screen not work correctly .

One of the reasons I picked the Umidigi is because of it is IP68 water rating.
