Givi vs Shad

Following this as well.

My long gone 2007 Suzuki Burgman 400, I used a Givi 450...I was neither happy or unhappy with it. It worked and well. But I sold the Burgman around 2013-2014 and replaced it with my currente 2010 R1200RT.

I now also have a G310 with the BMW 26L top case which is a Shad case that BMW re-badged. Not sure if the latch mechanism is specific to this 26L, I dislike it because it does not click/pop to let you know you can lift the lid, you need to push in before you open the lid...

I have the 310 top case and also bought Shad 23 liter side bags for our G310GS bikes. As a do-over I would get bigger Shad side cases but the ones we have function perfectly as designed and fitted.

I've had both. I ran a Givi E52 monokey on several Triumphs for about 8 years, sturdy, well constructed, never leaked, fine bit of kit. FYI it would hold just shy of one case of beer with ice. I'm currently using a Shad sh58ex top case on my '21 RT, very sturdy, well constructed, has never leaked in all sorts of bad weather, and the expandable feature is very nice. I don't think you can go wrong with either manufacturer.

I’ve always had Givi.. v46 so I have no basis for comparison but similar to the other responses no complaints, it functions exactly as expected

In evaluating your choices one suggestion I’d make is to verify that the aftermarket case you’re looking at requires a key to lock. Some manufacturers produce within their line top cases that can be locked without using the key. This raises the prospect of tossing your jacket in the topcase and locking it only to realize that the key is in the jacket pocket (looking at you, V47 Givi). Last time I checked, the Givi V46 required the key in order to lock, as does my Shad 50L case.

DAMHITK.

Best,
DeVern
