r1100s windscreen replacements

Hey folks, it's that time of the year... when a lack of riding time turns to those parts you've been meaning to replace.

My current windscreen (a non-stock tinted item replaced by the previous owner) has a mild crack and as such I'm looking for a replacement. I have the original OEM item, same crack (can anyone guess where, as clearly it is a weak point?). In general, the current screen (same size and airflow of OEM, just tinted) seems to work pretty well for me. Sometimes I wonder about a taller screen though, as I do a lot of longer rides. That said, I do tend to ride with my visor open and enjoy the steady flow of fresh air.

As a result, I'm in the market. Options include:

-OEM replacement: https://bmwparts.crosscountrycycle....5/46637670457.html?clickSource=relatedProduct

pro: OEM fitment
con: Expense, not tinted (I've grown kinda fond of the look)

-MRA "SPOILERSCREEN": https://twistedthrottle.com/shop/bo...3T8esYprTQBK-knwQjZhSowjzAW77pdxoCZcQQAvD_BwE

pro: Looks kinda cool, tint, price, and a slightly more aggressive touring/airflow angle?
cons: no idea on quality, fitment, effectiveness of said air deflection (too much, or too little?)

-ZTechnik "VStream": https://www.shopbmwmotorcycle.com/p...AhS8-M3_FAMM2-sxXtvYL5S3PYTMX4VxoCuxoQAvD_BwE

pro: this looks a lot like my current, price is better than OEM, etc.
cons: no experience with this brand or model

-eBay "tall flip" type: https://www.ebay.com/itm/1558365440...E8UpV36z5Tc9cQ5dcZh8CD22OZU48KwRoCDTYQAvD_BwE

-pros: more wind protection?
-cons: no experience on brand, effectiveness/impact of said air deflection (too much, or too little?)

-the Vario full boat big daddy with added aero: https://www.motea-shop.com/en_us/va...QECOCX9fRv0vcb_9uopRhn0uTuJ4K1sRoC1-wQAvD_BwE

pros: man this looks like a nice part, have heard good things about the brand
cons: high price, and is it... too much?

Any-hoo.. thanks for tolerating my quandry - I'm hoping some of you fellow r1100s types might have experience with any of the aftermarket stuff as I'm pretty familiar with the OEM approach / footprint (and yes, I agree that OEM is often the right move). Or I'm guessing that riders of other models have relevant brand experience?

Thanks for any insights!

Waiting for Spring,

MH

I'm not sure I know the specific differences between an RS and an S, but there was this thread found via searching the tag system:

This thread is not too old:

Go with the ZTechnik. Quality part that does the job. DO NOT overtighten the mounting screws on whatever you buy.

Hey thanks for this, I did see some insight on the second post [I'm up in there already, like most r1100s posts these days :geek: ] - but you make a good observation that this provides a good review of the Airflow (looks a lot like the one I've got now, plus the price is attractive): https://www.stpraceproducts.com/en-...ight-tint-double-bubble-screen-by-powerbronze

FTR, this is a completely different part than the RS, as you can see here (but input on brands is for sure helpful): https://bmwparts.calmoto.com/p/BMW_...lCoyO1S97wLvo7BceZdWLaLQqEpMdW-IaAjq1EALw_wcB

Thanks much!

Gracias, this part does look the business. Similar to OEM but with the tint and it appears, a bit more... bubble? I'm guessing there's a bit more angle that's provided by this... super appreciate anyone else who has experience or feedback.

And yeah I'm guessing that these two screens I've got now with the same crack might have been impacted by overtightening... but I def need the reminder.

Happy grey Tuesday in Janufebry. :sneaky:

I bought a Gustafsson for my 1100 S and it was a quality piece. As stated be very careful not to over tighten. Go gently.

Looks like a pretty sweet part but def uncheap. Leaning toward the VStream.

As my current bolts are looking a bit tatty [one is in fact missing] I'm going to replace the hardware too. Hopefully this will help with any tendency to over-tighten which I'm sure is exacerbated by repeatedly re-used fasteners.

I also need to take the nose piece off to repair the grille that was pushed in at some point (acorn damage? large insect?). I know that not all bikes have this, not even sure if it is OEM but I have become accustomed to the look and it can't hurt in terms of keeping debris out the snorkels.

So, lots of careful tinkering to come as part of this project.

One of my bolts lost it's back right behind the mirror and I wasn't able to get far enough in there to replace it.
