front tire sizes - 110/80 and 120/70 compatible?

I've got the Special Edition R1100R with spoke wheels. The front normally uses a 110/80R18. I'm looking at the Michelin Pilot Road / Road tires. They don't actually offer this exact spec'd tire until you go down to the PR3. In the PR4 GT, which is still a radial, they offer a 120/70ZR18. Can the 120/70ZR18 work ok in place of the 110/80ZR18 ? I have heard that if you go down one on one number and up one on the other that they are close enough that they work, and I have done this with car tires without issue.

Has anyone else done this? Your actual experience please?

So I found http://largiader.com/parts/wheels.html and if you go to the very bottom it looks like the spoke wheels on the R1100R have a wheel size 2.5 x 18.

Per https://www.msiwheelblanks.com/assets/fit_tire.pdf the 120/17 requires at least a 3" wide rim. This will not work :/

I'd like to know, along with your experience with those. Trying to figure out what tires to go to next ...

Anyone running these? Looks like these are available in 110/80ZR18 and 150/70ZR17

I've used these and they work just fine. Especially good in the wet. Last a long time, too.
