Front Shock R850R

Well here I am again with a shock issue. Last summer I was going cross country and my rear shock blew out. Ended up with a good deal on a sweet Ohlin unit from a R1100RT that fit my 96 R850R perfectly. Now my front is look weak and I'm heading from Palm Desert to Austin. Got a lead on a Öhlins from a R1150GS that seem to have the correct Ohlin part number, S46ER1. I know that a unit from a R1100GS fits my bike want to make sure this works. Anyone has any experience or knowledge?
