First aid volunteers at das rally

Hi Rally-goers,
Please consider volunteering in First Aid at the rally. We need folks with some kind of medical, first aid, EMS type experience. We will need to staff three 4 hour shifts each day between 9 am and 9 pm with 4 people each shift. If you would like to volunteer with us, you can contact me by email, or sign up at the volunteer booth at the rally, or just come by the first aid room and sign up.

What we DO at First Aid
-We wash scrapes, scratches, and blisters and bandage them.
-We share sunblock and sunburn gel (if there is no blistering)
-We immobilize injuries for comfort and to prevent further injury
-We log each person seeking care: Name, Complaint (5 words or less) and Home town
-We offer detailed directions to local E.R., Urgent Care and Pharmacy
-We monitor the radio for calls for assistance on the “Medical” channel
-We sometimes need to talk on other channels (dial on top) Remember to switch back!
-We roam the rally site in a golf cart when we have enough volunteers with jump bag and radio
-We familiarize ourselves with the venue when roaming, learn as you cruise around.
-When roaming in golf carts we offer rides. Keep the seats filled.
-We, Chair/Co-Chair, arrange transport to local E.R. for those who need a ride and are not 9-1-1 material
-We, Chair/Co-Chair track and support any hospitalized members (as able)
-We provide a cool place in First Aid for people to shelter from the heat.
-We provide water for those needing hydration.
-We provide 24 hour accessible cool storage for storage of personal medications like insulin.
-We provide a place to lie down for those that feel they need it. Talk to these people. They may have a medical problem. In the past we have had some very sick persons that “just want to lie down” in First Aid when they really need to be in and Emergency Room ASAP.
-We are available 24 hours, off hours covered by Chair or Co-Chairs)
